Philly Darts Community
Raises over $13,000 for Charity!

On Saturday,
February 24, The Quaker City English Dart League (QCEDL) held its 1st
annual Cancer Dart Shoot, raising more than $13,000 in support of
Crossing the Finish Line, a non profit organization
that assists young adult cancer patients.
The successful fundraising event was held at the popular Jokers
Bar & Grill (7312 Castor
Ave.) in
Northeast Philadelphia
and attracted over 300 people (more than 200 of them darts shooters).
State Representative Michael P. McGeehan and QCEDL President, Russ
Jasinski, kicked off the occasion.
Much anticipation surrounded the run up to the event and as the
day unfolded the excitement grew. Door prizes were awarded and numerous
baskets of donated gifts were auctioned as the darters competed and as
the band, Smokin’ K.B.’s Blues & Rock Music, kept the day upbeat and
festive.
Although this was packed with fun it was organized for a very
serious purpose: to raise funds for a great organization, Crossing the
Finish Line. Spearheaded by the QCEDL Board and chaired by board member
Cathy Jasinski, with the help of Gail Flaherty, President of the Women
of Philadelphia English Dart League, and the CREW – Bob Scott, Mark
Cochrane and Bob Worener – and dozens of volunteers, the day closed in
spectacular fashion with more than $13,000 raised to help young cancer
patients.
Speaking for the QCEDL Board and all area darts players, Russ
Jasinski was exuberant in his praise for all involved. “I just want to
express my heartfelt appreciation,” said Jasinski, “for the support we
received from our sponsors, the participants, and other darts leagues in
the area. The darts community came together in the spirit of compassion
to make the event a great success and establish the benchmark for next
year.”
